Tues, 1/2/01 | Trip to Balboa Park: Science Center, Model Railroad Museum and Imax Theater to see 'Wild California'! | Catriona, Arthur, Charley & Penny left at 7:30am. |
Today Catriona and
family set off back home on an early morning flight. Ty, Dad and I got up at 5:00 am
to take them to the airport; Charley was sad to leave but she'd had a wonderful visit.
We said our goodbyes at the gate and waved them off. Later that morning, Fiona, Mum and I enjoyed a special breakfast at "The Eggery" - my favorite eatery with the best pancakes in town! Then Mum chaffeured everyone over to Balboa Park in two trips. Our car was being repaired and Ty had a commitment to deal with at home, so couldn't come with his carry all truck! The kids thoroughly enjoyed all the interactive exhibits at the Science Center: they played with giant bubbles for ages, enjoyed the "backwards" TV (it records you for 15 seconds or so, then plays the tape backwards!) and the huge echo tubes. Mum and Gary went round the Aerospace Museum while the rest of us had a bite of lunch, then we all met up at the Model Railroad Museum. And finally, we rounded off the day with a truly amazing visit to the Imax Dome theatre; "Wild California" was the name of the show and we experienced "bird's eye views" of surfing, skydiving, eagles and climbers going up and inside giant 3000 year old sequoia trees! That was neat! In the evening, we all went out to the Souplantation for a big salad bar dinner. Yum! |
