Thurs, 1/4/01 | Day trip to Disneyland. | Christine & Gary started return journey, via Las Vegas! |
Today
we hired a mini-van (thanks Dad!) and drove in style up to Disneyland! (Thanks Fi &
Glen!) We had a totally fantastic day; Dad had wanted to come here ever since he was
a kid! We arrived at around 11:30 am and stayed until 10:30 pm (the park is open
until midnight!). We started with a Jungle Cruise: this was a trip on a boat through authentic forest and marshlands with incredible life-like mechanical animals such as elephants blowing water, giraffes chewing grass and rhinos chasing natives up a tree! Next we tried the Haunted Mansion: we entered a huge elevator with no ceiling, it feels like the walls are stretching; we waited in a hallway with special effect pictures that transformed before our eyes, like the Mona Lisa into Medusa; and statues whose eyes followed you. We climbed on board the special two-person cars on a moving walkway and were spooked with skeletons, graves, disappearing dancers and then a ghost sat right in the cars with us! Whew... I was glad to get out of there. We jumped on the raft to Tom Sawyer Island where the kids enjoyed climbing up a tree house and we all ran around the caves and forts. Then it was Ty's favorite: Pirates of the Caribbean. "Yo-ho, yo-ho, it's a pirate's life for me!" Each ride seemed to get more incredible. The special effects are really neat! We had a soaking time on the Splash Mountain water ride - I somehow ended up in the front seat and got hit by a "tidal wave"! Other rides/entertainment we enjoyed included Space Moutain, Star Tours, Autopia and a neat 3D show with live special effects called "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience". The kids were spooked when "mice" tickled their legs! The day was topped off by a truly spectacular Finale involving the whole park with fireworks, dancing, singing, water, lights, Disney characters, boats and amazing special effects. Wow, what an awesome day. Everyone fell asleep on the way home... except Ty who was driving! Thanks Ty. |
Hmm, will the real one please stand up?
Watch out! New driver!
Toot toot!
Dad with one of his favorite Disney characters!
An exhausted, but exhilarated, Disney troop!
